Thyssen Mining has operated in North and South America since 1960. It is part of the Thyssen Group of Companies, which has been in operation since the late 1800s. The Thyssen Group is recognized around the world as one of the pre-eminent names in mine construction and has a network of companies operating around the world.

In the nineteen sixties, Thyssen brought state-of-the-art freezing technology from Europe to North America and has since used it to sink shafts in Canada and across North America. Potash producers such as PCS, Agrium and Mosaic recognize their expertise and local knowledge. Through their successful partnership with First Nations and communities of northern Saskatchewan, the Mudjatik Thyssen Mining Joint Venture, Thyssen has been involved in the development and operation of all underground uranium mines in Saskatchewan since the nineteen eighties and continues to train and employ hundreds of residents from the north.
